Friends,
Forty years ago as an undergrad, I fell in love with translating and translated a lengthy short
story by Horacio Quiroga. I still have the hand-written ms., yellowed and brittle.
Somehow I never pursued translation, but the love was rekindled recently, and I went on a binge -
doing all of Pablo Neruda's "Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Hopelessness," some Machado,
and some Jimenez.
Now I'm wondering how I might bring the Neruda work to an audience slightly wider than friends and
family. I guess I'd need an agent, or word of a publisher who might be interested - especially in
light of the fact that W.S. Merwin's pretty-good translation is still in print.
If any of you has an idea or two, or would like to see a sample, I'd appreciate a private response.
Thanks!
