One thing to try is to start up the DOS window and enter the following
command:
Mode con lines=25
It should form a more 'normal' looking window.
I have this command in a batch file for running XY3.57 under XP.

Subject: XP--screen length--startup.int
In preparation for buying a new computer, I'd been saving a whole ton of
exchanges on the issue of XY screenlength in a DOS box and, as I recall,
attendant exhanges about loading startup.int.
Then the new computer arrived and, in the rush of it all, I managed to
misplace and/or destroy a whole mess of mail...Just spent 3 hours
searching, on the off chance, but no.
So...
XyDos 4.018
XP Home ed.
Dell Dimension 4600
Dell flat-panel monitor
On each boot, Xy in the box opens in about the top 40% of the screen.
Under Advanced/Preferences, I can expand it to full screen using "screen
hardware settings" but along the painfully long route I get the message:
"Settings.dfl exists but is not loaded. The menus cannot locate it
if it has been renamed." [It has not been renamed.]
A little further along, another message:
"For these settings to take effect the next time you start
Xywrite, you must add this statement to the startup file: BC Load
96,72settings.dfl"
What the settings line in my startup.int says is:
BX LOAD C:\XY4\SETTINGS.DFLQ2 FF ;*;
I am loathe to change anything on the settings line of startup without
some advice.
Thanks in advance
