Malcolm, how are you converting? That is, are you trying to use the
File-->Save as function, or are you using the filters from the DOS
command line? And do you have the "Hungarian" filters (so called because
they used to be available from a Hungarian Website)? I recently had to
convert a paper from Xy (to which I had had to import it to clean up the
formatting mess the author had created) to Word 2000, and got good
results using the Xy to RTF filters. Word is--well, wierd--about reading
files formatted in older versions of itself, but RTF seems to go over
well.
	Here is a list of the Hungarian filters, with the ones for RTF starred:
