The more I think about this (and I've been thinking furiously),
the more I agree with Harry's post of yesterday: even apart from
the fact that no publisher is likely to accept native Xy files,
trying to embed page numbers at this stage of the publishing
process is an exercise in futility. If the publishers want a
page-number reference for notes, they'll have to insert it, at
the very end of the publishing process. Before that, there's no
way to know what page something will fall on.
But if Michael wants a way to get the period and tab (NOT space)
into his notes quickly, then the following progrm should do it:
XPLeNCODE v2.0
b-gin [makefn.pgm]
{<}SX01,"."{>}{<}SX02,"{tab}"{>}{<}SX03,{<}is01{>}+{<}is02{>}
{>}[BX_]fn1[Q2_]{<}PV03{>}
-nd
XPLeNCODE
Assign it to a key (or better, convert it to a frame, copy it
into U2, and then assign that U2 frame to a key; saves RAM) and
hit that key combo whenever you need to write a note. At the end
of the note, hit Shift-F1 or whatever key you have assigned (CAN
one change that assignment?) to close the note window.
