You type the name of the BATfile? Or it starts XyWrite automatically when you
click on it?

Editor can't handle 8000. 4000 is max.

Let's start over. Forget the BATfile, you don't need it. Minimize all your
open applications, so you have a clean desktop. Do this on your wife's
machine. Right-click on an empty part of the Desktop ==> New == Shortcut. Type
"c:\xy4\editor.exe /e4000" in the first box. Type "XyWrite IV" in the second
box ==> Finish. Result: new icon. Right-click on the new shortcut icon you
just made ==> Properties ==> Program tab. Make sure the box at the bottom that
says "Close on exit" is **checked**. Cmd line should say C:\XY4\EDITOR.EXE
/e4000. Working should say C:\XY4. Batch file should be empty. Shortcut key
None. Run Normal window. Memory tab: Conventional mem Auto, Auto; Expanded
5120; Extended None; DPMI Auto. Screen tab: Pick your preferred Usage, check
everything else. Misc tab: UNcheck Background Always suspend and Mouse
Exclusive mode. Idle sensitivity slider in the middle. Leave everything else
as-is. Pick a font you like. Apply everything, OK to close the Properties
window.

Now put your mouse cursor on top of the icon, hold down the right mouse button
and drag a copy of the icon down to your Quick Start bar -- don't release the
mouse button until you see a vertical bar open in your quick start bar --
that's where you're going to locate a copy of the icon. Release the mouse, and
select "Create Shortcut's here". Done. Now try both icons -- the one on the
Desktop and the one in Quick Start -- open & close XyWrite. Window should
disappear when you terminate.
