Electronic Mail?

Does anyone know how to use XyWrite for electronic mail? I've tried using
strip.prn and mail.prn with varying results. The problem is that using those
requires one to "printf" the file rather than just save it as normally done,
and the result is that I get couple extra lines put in at the top of the file,
the first one says "Lines: 43" (or whatever length the file is) and then one or
two blank lines. I'm not sure whether XyWrite is doing this, or whether it's my
offline reader (Yarn).
If I forget about using wordwrap, etc. and just enter manually a hard
carriage return at the 7.5 inch required line ending for electronic mail, and
then just save the file, it's okay. So is there any other way to strip out the
formatting codes without doing a printf or tyf?
I'm using XyWrite 4, BTW.
