First I had a source pc which already had xywrite ("xy") 4.17 on it and
windows 98se. I had installed the xy on the source machine at a time when
I had booted up to the dos kernel. (On boot up if you keep pressing f8
you get several options. I had chosen the dos or command
prompt. I think that was choice number 5.
Next I went to the target pc on which I wanted to install xywrite which
used windows xp as its operating system. I went to command prompt on the
desktop. I connected a fastlynx cable between the source and the
target machine and gave the command on the source machine to simply copy my
entire xy directory to a xy directory on the target machine. I think this
can also be done using laplink which is very similar or if you have a network
can simply be copied through the network or you can use floppies. I have
done all but the laplink in the past to transfer xy from one pc to
another.
To operate xy on the target pc which has windows xp
I do one of two things, either I go to command prompt and run xy that way but
than I cannot use <alt+shift+hard return> or I use a boot disk which has
the dos kernel from windows 98se on it. Prior to this operation I had
created a dos boot disk using a windows 98 machine. I than rebooted my
windows xp pc from a floppy so that I had a dos operating
system.
