Dear Carl
Thanks for you reply to my queries. I have commented out the BP=82 in
the printer file. I have put the default font setting in my startup.int
file rather than settings.dfl Does it make much difference where it goes?
Regarding the installer, I have tried as you suggested and installed to
a new directory and then copied autoexec, config and various other
folders across. That seems to work but I will keep a copy of the old
version for now just in case
Best wishes
Paul

Paul,
However, when I run XY4 in VdosPlus I now get an error, "invalid
BP=82" or something similar. This setting (BP=82) is in the
printer file but I can find nothing in the XY4 documentation to
tell me what BP does. Can I just Rem it out with a semi-colon?
I get the same error when I load GS_A4.PR4. I don't know what BP refers to,
either, but you can comment it out. (Kari may be right that it's a typo for
BT -- although 82 doesn't seem a likely value for BoTtom margin.)
Then, how do I set a default font other than Courier? I tried
putting a default value of UF in my startup.int but that does not
work.
To change the default font on the fly, command D UF=fontname on the CMline.
To make the change persistent, set DF UF= in SETTINGS.DFL. Alternatively,
you can add a DF UF= statement to GS_A4.PR4, assuming that it makes sense
for you to bind that default font setting to that printer file.
I've never had the installer wipe out my vDosPlus customization and I'm
puzzled how that could happen (not saying it couldn't). One safe way to use
the installer to upgrade to the latest (last) version of vDosPlus is to
direct the installation to a fresh directory, then copy over your
customized CONFIG and AUTOEXEC files to the new location. Depending on how
old your current version is, you may have to tweak some settings, but
you'll have the latest & greatest.
