Re: Winevdm runs 16-bit Windows apps in 64-bit Windows

Dear Edward

I will be testing this out in a few days when I have some time free. I have OED, a French/English dictionary and an accounting program that I would like to resurrect. In the meantime, once winevdm is installed, is it simply a matter of installing 16 bit programs as if they were standard Windows programs or is there a special routine necessary?

Thanks

Paul

The winevdm project (also known as otvdm) makes it possible to run 16-bit Windows 1/2/3 applications in 64-bit Windows as if they were modern Windows applications. It's the work of a programmer who uses the name otya128. It isn't in final release yet, but I've created an installer that installs it effortlessly.

I use it to run WordPerfect for Windows 5.2 and 7, Instant Recall, and a few other 16-bit programs. It runs OED 1.0 without the need for Robert Holmgren's workaround that temporarily turns off printing. It won't allow every application to print (e.g. WPWin 5.2 and OED 1.0 won't print), but it does almost everything else. Here's my page about it, with links to the original project and my installer: http://www.columbia.edu/~em36/otvdm.html <http://www.columbia.edu/%7Eem36/otvdm.html> If you have problems with the installer, please let me know.
