My earlier message about printing from XyWin included some possibly
needless steps. Here is the method for installing XyWin under otvdm so
that you can print without problems:
Before installing or (if you already installed it) before using XyWin,
edit the text file c:\otvdm\odvdm.ini by removing the comment mark (";")
from the start of line 43 (or whatever line number may be relevant in
the current version), and save the file, so that the relevant line reads:
EnumFontLimitation=1
This will prevent an error that would otherwise occur when XyWin tries
to list the fonts on your system. When installing, select at least one
XyWrite printer driver (perhaps the HP LaserJet 4), but choose the
option to start with Windows printer drivers. When printing, do not
select a XyWrite driver; choose only a Windows printer driver, Some
Windows printer drivers will cause errors; some, like the default PCL6
driver for my HP LaserJet, will print correctly. You may need to experiment.
If you have already installed XyWin and you encounter errors with every
Windows printer driver that you try, you might experiment with this
possible fix: edit XWSTART.INI and change the setting for UWF from 2 to
1. (You can do this in Notepad or in XyWin itself.) Then restart XyWin
and try to print. Or consider reinstalling XyWin from the start; the
installer may not be able to overwrite your existing files unless you
restart your computer before reinstalling; and you may need to delete or
rename your existing XW, DOCS, and BTFONTS folder before the installer
will run correctly.
