Re: DOSBox-X version 0.83.20 on M1

Hi Wengier,

1. As far as I know, the version is 0.83.20. The file creation date is 30 Nov 2021, does that sound right? And as the heading says, this is an M1 - - Pro, as it happens.

2. There is definitely a smalll error in the way that a path is assigned to mapper-dosbox-x.map when the save command is invoked on my system. In my case, I am in a three-level-deep directory:

/users/billt/dellxps17

BUT, the mapper module attempts to save to this path

/users/billt/dellxps17/dellxps17

You see? It is duplicating the last entry in the path. The message will then be that the file cannot be opened, since the last level folder does not exist.

I then took the step of creating the additional folder that Mapper was asking for. The file was successfully saved. I then copied the file one level up, to

/users/billt/dellxps17

but it still doesn't actually work, even when mapper reports that Mod1 is mapped to Left-Command (which in turn is mapped to caps-lock through the Mac keyboard settings). So I have two functional Left command keys: Left command, and caps-lock. Neither is registering with dosbox.

3. I will now try your defaultdir suggestion. I would like to make clear that dosbox is always being invoked from this directory

/users/billt/dellxps17

but perhaps adding an explicit command would help.

May I assume that the directdir command can go into doxbox-x.conf ?

Hi Bill,

I am not sure which DOSBox(-X) build you are using. For DOSBox-X, by default it should save the mapper settings to a file named mapper-dosbox-x.map. I just tried the latest code with the default setting in Windows and macOS, and it did save to such a file. You can change the name of the mapper file to load with "mapperfile" option. You may also specify the working directory for DOSBox-X with the -defaultdir option, e.g. "dosbox-x -defaultdir dir", so that this directory will be used as the default path for config file, mapper file, font files, etc. Perhaps you want to check and correct the working directory and mapper file for your DOSBox-X build.

I've tried this many times and it simply never
takes. And there does seem to be a misfunction.
For example, I invoke dosbox from a folder called
xyz. But when I try to save the  map file, I get
the console message, cannot open file in xyz/xyz.
(It repeats the name of the folder.) So I created
that dummy folder, and sure enough, the map file
got saved there. However, it still doesn't
register. From dosbox I can explicitly say, load
this map file, and still the change will not
occur. After restarting dosbox, the mapper editor
always shows the original setting.

I also couldn't get any font setting to work. I
tried Carl's settings, but they just resulted in
error messages, even when I eliminated all the white space.

I also find that I cannot get the screen length
commands to register, and I can't get any ttf
font to load. Should the font be included in the
dosbox folder? I have to invoke these commands
from the dosbox menu, laboriously, each time.

I am finding everything much speedier, but I
still am annoyed by a delay-before-repeat upon
keypress and would love to be able to change that.
