Re: DOSBox-X version 0.83.20 on M1

Hi Bill,

The displayed path for the user configuration directory simply shows where the user configuration directory is supposed to be located. If it does not exist, then it will be ignored. But I you can try creating such a directory if it did not exist. As for the working directory, if you set “working directory option = prompt” then DOSBox-X should prompt for working directory each time it runs, ignoring the “working directory default = /Users/billt/dellxps17” option. But you did not mention whether you actually see such a prompt when you run DOSBox-X. If you do, the mapper files etc will be loaded from the selected directory.

Hi Bill,

The user configuration directory and the working directory are two completely separate things; the two directories as shown by CONFIG -L do not indicate a bug, but rather something wrong with the setting. There is no need to change the user configuration directory, which looks fine, but the working directory appears to be certainly wrong for your use case. I think you can indeed remove the existing working directory default line and replace it with a directory that contains the mapper file and font files etc, or you can put these files in /Users/billt/. I believe it should work when you make such changes.

One note about config -L

It reports that the user configuration directory is
/Users/billt/Library/Preferences/

but,

  /Users/billt/

does not contain an entry for LIbrary or Preferences.

Rather, the existing /libary/preferences on this vanilla system are
straight off the "macintosh HD" or root.

If that isn't a bug, then what is it?

Meanwhile: XyWrite looks great once I execute the menu commands
screen mode 43x80, and Output, TrueType font.

But nothing I put in config makes these things happen. And MAPPER
reports that the change I made has taken, BUT, the program still uses
the Mac's control key.

Just in case it's important, the chip is M1 Max; the OS is 12.01.

And I don't think I have the right syntax for the working directory
default line in dosbox-x.conf. The documentation seems to me to
indicate that it should be
working directory default /Users/billt/dellxps17
but this doesn't work, and I cannot find any suggestion how else to write it.
