I put together a new XyWrite 4 package for DOS. This one is much smaller than the one I linked to the other day. It's intended to be a minimal working Xy4 setup, with almost no customization (but see below), albeit one that can be customized in the usual ways. There is no bundled DOS emulator, so you're on your own in that regard. It works for me in both vDosPlus and DOSBox-X. There are several features that make this package attractive (to my way of thinking): - No installation required. Just unzip the files to a folder of your choosing -- be sure to preserve the ZIP file's internal directory structure -- and command EDITOR.EXE to launch XyWrite. It should run out-of-the-box. - This setup is *portable*. You should be able to run it from any Read- Write folder, including a flash drive. (A conventionally installed Xy4 setup is not portable; editing of customization files is required if you move it to a new path location.) - The latest Jumbo U2 -- updated today -- is included and "pre- installed". Unshifted F9 can be used to execute both native XyWrite commands and U2 routines; ditto, unshifted F11. Command HELP<F9> to get started with U2. This is a basic U2 setup, without any of the external helper programs (U2EXTRAS), but these can be easily added. - The screen should be resizeable to your accustomed DOS screen dimensions. If the opening screen is scrambled (or even if it is not), issue the following command on the XyWrite command line: SCREENSIZE COLS=x LINS=y<F9> where x and y are your desired screen dimensions. Note that this command works only in DOSBox-X and vDosPlus -- at least, it works for me. Your mileage may vary, as they say.
