Carl,IBM imposed various standards upon Signature's development, but other than that I think the big thing was the impetus given by the Big Blue assignment. It was a make-or-break situation for XyQuest, and they tried to deliver as they best could. IBM's contribution was to sign a contract with XyQuest, and when they changed their strategy of becoming a PC software company, dump the results.

So many useful features, large and small, were added in Signature and carried over to XyWrite 4. I'm not sure exactly what IBM's contribution to Signature was (aside from unceremoniously pulling the plug), but clearly David Erickson had to be instrumental in the program's survival and further development.
