Third-party antivirus

for malware-detecting software may want to read these:

All those "threats" that antivirus software claims to block are blocked by modern Windows anyway. The warnings from the antivirus software are nothing more than scams designed to reassure you that you are getting value for money. Meanwhile, the software wastes your time by blocking things that shouldn't be blocked, like Carl's (and my) AutoIt-based programs.

An anti-virus parable:
Here in rural New England we had a neighbor who kept a loaded rifle at hand so that he could ward off home-invaders and government agents. No home in this county has been invaded in the seventeen years that we've been here, but our neighbor was prepared. Unfortunately, the only thing he actually accomplished with his rifle was to shoot himself (literally) in the foot.
I stopped paying for Malwarebytes four years ago because I didn't see
any point in paying for time-wasting inconvenience. And I value my feet.
Please don't waste your valuable time writing messages that list all the
threats that your antivirus software has saved you from. Windows has
been silently blocking all those threats for at least a dozen years.
Your antivirus  software is scamming you.
(Of course, if you still use Windows 7, you need all the anti-virus
software you can get.)
