Xy4 installer details

Harry,
The installer supplies missing standard Xy4 files, it leaves any custom files with your own names as is. However, the installers delete no longer used vDosPlus fonts and old documentation files and obsolete links from the system. While very much happens under the hood, the !files.txt lists are pretty thorough. Look there for explanations for individual files. In CP437, the xy4.dlg, xy4.mnu, settings.dfl, chars437, ghost437.prn, pcl437.prn are essential part of the Service Pack. Similarly, for other CPs, there are different sets of files that implement CP-specific features. In settings.dfl, there are these CP-specific settings that you should keep as per the installer (they are diffent for each CP): separator table, uppercase string, pick printer table and accent table (where applicable). Carl has devised a CP switching mechanism but I prefer separate instances in different folders for each CP. The installers support multiple concurrent Xy4 instances. When using concurrent setups, the Windows uninstall feature does not produce correct results, it removes the latest installed setup (the installers share the same install ID). Instead, you must go to the correct vDosPlus folder, and run the uninstaller from there. The backup system makes new backup files for each iteration of installs so you can run the installer any number of times directed to the same folder, and go back to any of these earlier backups by selecting the appropriate backup. Hope this helps.
I support Carl's idea of a clean slate. Like Windows, XyWrite can
benefit from a fresh start.

Best regards,

Kari Eveli

Do you know what specific files SP 5.03 involves? If it's more than 4 or so, I'll just run Kari's installer again. Yes, I run Xy4 and my U2 is labeled "hybrid.u2" because the first tenth of it is my addition, clearly separated from your and Robert's code (as you urged me to do).
