For example, with U2, I can run virtually any Windows CMD.exe command from the XyWrite 4 command line or by putting the cursor on (or selecting) the command in a file open in XyWrite. I can take the output of that command into XyWrite and manipulate it further. I can use U2's NEw, CAll, and SAve commands (DNE, DCA, and DSA) to create, open, or save-as a file using a long filename. I do all of this not by "shelling" to Windows but by addressing the operating system directly (in a kludgy-but-slick-and-efficacious way). For my money, any XyWrite of the future would have to be able to do all of this natively. -- Carl Distefano cld@xxxxxxxxxx
