Re: QuickNotes

It's hard to keep up with you, Carl!

First, you can now hide the notes panel.
The "text-like" files listed in the notes panel are now taken from the current directory as shown on the command line.

Both are very helpful.  It's now veryow any other program that makes it so easy to do that.

As per your request, filenames without extensions are treated as text-like and thus displayed.

.md files are alsomy habit of not using extensions breaks a Windows rule (I started off in DOS, which didn't care, did it?), but I think there is an argument that the .md extension should be shown at least for files outside the \quicknotes\notes directory.

A small point is that the "Tags" input field appears even for non-Markdown files, although it is not relevant for them.

One thing that is missing is the timestamp of the file.  It would be good to see it at least for the displayed file, although displaying it for all files in the notes pane, maybe in a second column, would also be good.

Oh yes, that should be doable. There is an INPUT keyword that takes user input and assigns it to a variable. If you'd like to send me your XPL routine privately, I could mock up a QPL equivalent for you.

Thank you! I will do that.

Crashes? That's bad. I haven't had any crashes here; I'm running Win 11. What version of Windows are you running?

I'm on Windows 11 --- version 25H2.  When I click "Auto-hide menu bar" in the Options menu there is 1 second pause, and then Quicknotes closes.  When I reopen it, the menu bar is hidden.  If I press Alt, it reappears, and then on every *other* press of Alt it toggles on and off (I am not doing anything between the Alt presses).  (I'm running version 2026-05-18T20:00:00 --- I see that you are a couple of days ahead of yourself!)

I can reproduce that here. The way around it is to use Wengier Wu's start.exe. (If you don't havé it, it's in U2EXTRAS.ZIP, on the XyWWWeb page.) Change the target to "d:\path\start.exe /hid python.exe d:\path\quicknotes.py"; the /HID switch bypasses the command window. (Start.exe also gives QN a different icon.)

Excellent --- that works.  (I could not get Chrome/Windows to allow me to download U2EXTRAS,ZIP from your site --- it complains of a hidden trojan, which must be a false negative --- but I have one from a few years ago.)

This is a great idea. I'm not ready to take it on now, but will look into it in due course(!).

! indeed --- the last time "in due course" was "a couple of hours"!
