XyScript's XPL is not a "front end" for anything. It's a new, cross-platform scripting language, built from the ground up with its own underlying abstract syntax tree (AST) data structure -- a programming language in its own right (albeit one built into XyScript). As I mentioned earlier, XPL programs can now, among other things, (a) pipe their output directly to stdout of the host OS, whether Windows, Linux, or macOS, and (b) receive input from external processes. But this close interface with the OS also means that Python or AutoIt or whatever can be used as an ancillary scripting language if desired. > Your example of Run $FP - please allow omitting the "Run ". > $FP<Enter> can only mean run it. Well, other people might just as well feel that $FP<Enter> should CAll or DELete the file. So I don't think this works as a matter of general usage. But ... > Hmmm, maybe XyScript will enable users to customize this sort of > thing themselves? Of course it will. You'll be able to invent your own "FP" command that RUNs the current file if you like. Other interesting news: I've just enhanced the Auto-Replace feature so that it's able not only to replace text but also to run XPL -- so you can do things like insert text and then move the cursor to a new insertion point within that text -- or type, say, "wr" and have it replaced with the current weather report. And I've incorporated the Typst typesetting system, so you'll be able to print documents with LaTeX-level formatting to PDF, in addition to GFM (GitHub Flavored Markdown). -- Carl Distefano cld@xxxxxxxxxx
