I have had great success in using Claude AI to get everything set up and working the way I want it in XyScript. Feed Claude the manual and ref files, and tell him/it that XyScript is built on the XyWrite model (which he/it can acquaint himself/itself with).
I recommend Claude over ChatGPT and the others. It now has a good interface (you can even talk to him/it with the mic icon) and should be run in Auto Mode so you are not pestered with constant permissions requests.

Glad that solved it.

Yes, it would be good for others to know that the issue was resolved.

I'm curious: how do you get the Dvorak layout? Do you modify the loaded KBD file (e.g., delete the key assignments), or does it just happen without any intervention from you? The latter would indicate that macOS is *partially* overriding the KBD file, which would be REALLY odd.
In any event, I've tried my hand at a Dvorak layout, based on xyscript-internal.kbd (see attached). Try swapping it in and let me know how it works.
Best,
