I am not a lawyer. I also know that copyright law is complicated (and
changing). (Of course, I think patent law is even worse). But fair use
allows me, in the name of scholarship, to a hell of a lot in the way of
photocopying and sharing with students and scholars and I imagine that the
copyrighted portions of code should be equally amenable to study without
needing special permission. Waiting for the lawyers to descend.
