Re: vDOS success... but no LFN

Hi Harry,

This is the desired effect. Since vDos-lfn supports long filenames, you can see long filenames with the DOS DIR command (as your screenshot shows). On the other hand, XyWrite's internal DIR command does not support long filenames (it won't show long filenames in *any* environment). If you want to see long filename listing directly from within XyWrite, I would suggest you to install the latest version of U2 if you have not already done so. Then enter the U2 command "PULL DIR" from the XyWrite command line, and both long filenames and short filenames will be shown in XyWrite as with the DOS DIR command. Hope this helps.

On the long filename issue, I added:
Win95LFN=Yes
to the 4DOS.INI that's in VDOS-LFN, but still don't get long filenames in XyWrite. You ask what happens with the DOS DIR command. I don't know how to get that using vDos, other than by shelling out from XyWrite. When I do, I see the long file name of Program Files in the column on the extreme right. I've posted a screenshot at:

Is that what you wanted?

Thanks so much for your help and for vDos-lfn!

Hi Harry,

If you do a DIR of C: from the vDos-lfn command line (not from within XyWrite) and cannot see long file names, please make sure the line "Win95LFN=Yes"  is present in the file 4DOS.INI located in the same directory as vDos-lfn.exe. In this case both LFNs and SFNs will be listed with the DOS DIR command. If you still cannot see LFNs, could you please upload a screenshot of the DIR command so I can check it too? Thanks.

After I added the drive-aliases I needed, the installation of vDOS-lfn on
the 64-bit OS went smoothly.

The only odd thing is that it's not using long file names! That is, when I
do a DIR of C:, I see progra~1 instead of Program Files.

Am I doing something wrong?
