Re: We should [NOT] move en masse to Nota Bene (sorry Anne!)

Points taken Raphael, except

Clearly we differ on MSOffice, which I think has gotten more or more cluttered with needless "features" each version.

Yes, it has gotten cluttered - - so would XyWrite be too, if it had survived in continuous development. The remarkable thing about MS Office is that much of it is now snappy. That's the unexpected improvement that happened compared to, say, really slow MSO 2003.

Also, emulation isn't an option for programs like the latest version of Creative Suite. You want them working to maximum speed with minimum overhead. Every second spent waiting is costing you and your client money.

I don't know enough about the current hardware - - and would love to learn from an expert on that - - but isn't it basically possible to run a lot of independent OS's virtualized on the current Intel platform without excessive penalty? Meaning theoretically Linux, Win and Mac should be able to run in independent and non-conflicting spaces?

Is dosemu platform independent?

If I could run Linux with little overhead at the same time as Win 7 or OS X, I'd be very happy. Communication between the two wouldn't bother me much, though I know that's very important for some.

Meanwhile it's difficult to understand why Nota Bene should have intractable problems at this point in development. I've been waiting for the good news for ten or 15 years and my breath is no longer bated.
