Just about the only advantage I ever noticed in XP vs.
W2K was that XP boots up and shuts down much faster.
If Vista is as big a flop in the market as presently
seems to be the case it may not matter, but I'm
wondering how Vista stacks up in this regard. I think
it was W2K that introduced "6 million lines of code"
as the starting point, so it was quite impressive to
me however MS managed to get the load time down to
around 35 seconds from W2K's 2 minutes 30 seconds.
(These clockings are based on a desktop system; I've
noticed that the laptop timings are slower, at least
from what I've seen. And I recognize that there are
other variables, such as just what you happen to have
auto-loading in your System Tray.)
