Problem with SEarch in Notabene

I seem to be having a problem with the U2 SEarch routine under Notabene.
 Sometimes it will work, but at other times it simply opens a file and
halts. I normally carry out a search of the sort:

SE filename.*|searchword|
I can find no consistency in the behaviour so have been unable to
determine when it works and when it doesn't. Has anybody else been able
to use it, either successfully or unsuccessfully.
