The lack of conversion filters for the latest version of other word
processors is a universal problem; WordPerfect 6.1 can't deal with Word 7
files at all, and vice versa involves some compromises. The main problem is
that everyone depended on filters from a program called Word for Word, which
has passed through several owners in the last couple of years. After
disappearing into the oblivion of Adobe for a couple of years, it was just
bought by Inso. No sign yet of whether they intend to update and start
selling it, or to kill it off to corner the market for their own competing
program, which is not as suitable for licensing by applications developers.
