speller and path; and Henderson's FAQs idea

Hearty thanks to Robert Holmgren and Brian Henderson for responding to my SOS. I resolved the problem when, after timorously following Robert's prescribed steps, I realized that my Windows autoexec.bat had no path statement. This fact led me back to a backup file that never got reinstalled in my big post-virus OS reincarnation last winter. I copied the missing data into autoexec.bat, saved, rebooted, and voila! it works.

I would like to add a note to Brian Henderson's comment that perhaps the primary on-list responses to questions are (1) no response and (2) "dissing" the questioner.

In my case, being led to an ultimate resolution was worth a few hours in the ducking stool. However, I neither pretend nor hope to be a computer maven. I turned to Xywrite II+ in 1985 because it offered its  speed and flexibility to anyone who could remember or look up its simple command line mnemonics. One was not required or expected to understand the arcanae.

And with the emergence back then of the Xywrite User Group, one could learn by lurking and find a knowlegeable individual source of help when needed. So this group has been, in a much-advanced way. I have come to look at the occasional snarl or disdainful snort as a flu shot. I am grateul enough for the protection to tolerate the discomfort of being thought a fool.

Finally, I support Brian's idea of, essentially,  an FAQ site placing few demands on the technological sophistication of its users -- a site for the writers and editors for whom XyWrite was developed.
