VA^MD only works if "Document Information" is attached to current file
(VA$DO=1). To attach DocInfo to files, VAIO must, in turn, be ON (=1). So
check for those conditions:

va/nv $DO with subject doc in current window
va/nv IO

To get the date of current file under any conditions, you could:
