converting word to xywrite

Searched the xywrite gopher director as advised by the illustrious
holmgren, but still am unable to convert one of my wife's old word files to
a xywrite file.
But at least I can get it to appear as a file. But it's filled with strange
instructions that enable it to print out as an address directory.

(As I write that last phrase, it occurs to me to try printing it.

What I did was, I took it off the storage disk into Word 97. I did a save
as in RTF format. Then I went to Xywrite for Windows and picked it up as a
file.

It looked like this:

Anybody know what kind of file that is, and above all, how to get it to
come out in Xywrite like it does in Word?
