Remember that VPC is now owned by the Bully of Redmond, so besides the
price in $ you have to consider not merely bugginess but the possibility
that it will no longer support DOS apps any day now.
I'm wondering if the 2-byte, 3-byte, 5-byte variations on control
characters (see Robert Holmgren's ControlChars doc on the U2 site) might
offer a solution to the problem?
