Absolutely -- there are many vendors out there who try to cut corners
by throwing in a cheap, no-name soundcard or whatever that doesn't meet the
real IBM-clone specs. By requiring them to pre-instal, you save mucho
potential headaches.

Not a very short list -- most peripherals work with Warp, very, very few
don't. But again, just get it as a package.

Most comm programs have a setup where you have to specify the
destructive backspace, etc., for VT100 emulation. And, there are many crummy
comm programs out there, especially those packaged with modems, that say
they do vt100 emulation, but really don't do it right, and will give you a
serious headache trying to make it work with a shell account. Procomm is a
sure bet, if you start using Warp, get ZOC -- the slickest comm program I've
ever seen.
