A routine that asked no questions would embarrass itself
over URLs such as http://mysite.com/whoop_dee_doo/,
filespecs such as d:\path\myfiles*.* and other such
exceptions. I don't see any sensible way around asking
for user confirmation.

The unbalanced-attribute code addresses an admittedly
rare occurrence - but, at the cost of a few extra bytes,
why not?
