Re: Xydos to email

No wonderful way, unless Jumbo U2 has something (wasn't Carl threatening to do that?) The essential is that Windows doesn't know nothing 'bout no areas selected within XyWrite. But here are some ideas. Method 1: a. In Xy, do a save defined text--SAD b. Within Netscape, open that file. UNFORTUNATELY, I can't see how to do that in Netscape 4.7. But maybe you can find a way. Failing that, attach it as a file. It will have only the Xy-selected stuff (but with the Xy formatting codes, if any). Method 2: Use as many cut-and-pastes as it takes to copy and paste it in. Per Leslie's request below, here's how: a. Hit alt-Enter to make Xy appear as a window. Note: for this to work, you have to have set up the Properites/Miscellaneous for Xy to let alt-Enter "pass through" to Windows (just check the box provided). b. Using your mouse, click and drag to select the text you want (you can't do more than one window-full at a time). Note: if your mouse won't do this, first click on the icon at the top of the Xy window that shows a square made out of dotted lines. And, BTW, you can click on this again to unselect. c. Go into Netscape and paste.
There are a few things you can do here. In theory, if you open XyDos in a window rather than in full screen, you can definie something and then use "mark" to copy it to the clipboard. Harry Binswanger knows how to do this and hopefully he will be more specific. He has explained this before.
Hope this is sufficient. Leslie's remarks below assume you want the whole file, not a selected portion. But if you use method 1, you will have a file consisting of only the selected text.
But: there are easier ways. Assuming you haven't put any MDIT's, etc. in the file you are intending to e-mail, if you attach it to the e-mail the changes are excellent your recipient will be able to read the file without even having to click on an "attachment" box--i.e., the file will be plain text and will appear in the body of the e-mail itself. And, finally, again, if there are no formatting codes in the Xyfile, simply save your file, say, as Judith.txt. Then you can open it in Windows with Word or one of the "pads," where you will have before you all the functions that Windows giveth. Good luck!
