Cautious conversion software. It just keeps rewriting formatting codes,
whether they already prevail or not (it has no idea whether they prevail).

In addition to DREF, run STRIPMD -- that will kill a ton of redundant
MoDe statements (make a backup copy first!!!!). Sometimes you can benefit by
running STRIPMD several times.
