Re: XY on a Mac

I use Xy IV in DosBox on a MacBook (Intel Duo Core) running OS X. DosBox needs tweaking of keys (as does the MacBook) not to interfere with Alt and Ctrl-key combinations. I have not attempted loading & using U2.

I tried Parallels, with many problems, and gave up. It was impossible to see and move files back and forth between Mac side and Xy, and in other ways was just plain awful.

DosBox, installed for me by a computer guy, is adequate, though if I used it more regularly I'd try more tweaking. The look of Xy in full screen is better in DosBox on Mac than on my ThinkPad running XP. I can move files from the DosBox side to Mac side using Finder.

If I save a file as a MS-DOS text file in Word on the Mac, then move it to my XY folder, Xy oddly doesn't see it, but I can call it from Xy, save it with a new name and it becomes visible.

My portable floppy drive, bought with my Thinkpad, works with the mac and files are moved easily with that, or with my flashdrive. I haven't attempted to print from XY.

That said, I use Xy on the Mac only rarely, when I'm away from home. My primary XY machine is an old Gateway, running DOS. When I need to e-mail or print those files, I move them by floppy to the Mac, where I convert to Word before sending or printing.

Has any one got experience with XY on a Mac?

I hate the Windows operating sys, but I've never found a program to match
XYIII.

I know there are dos emulators for Mac -- but how well do they work? I
distrust anything that piles program on program.
