Let's wait and see. I think XP will be working for many years to come. Up-to-date XP browsers will be available for a long time. Look at what happened to DOS: it is now very stable as it is no more developed, and getting even better if you choose to incorporate utilities developed in the FreeDos camp (e.g. the fully customizable keyboard layout command Keyb http://help.fdos.org/en/hhstndrd/base/keyb.htm). The installed base of XP is enormous, and the basic functionality is quite sufficient for most tasks. DOS lives, and XP will not go away!

That said, virtualization is the long-term perspective if and when you want to ditch old hardware.
