XyWin install for XP Pro

Harry wrote, "Make that XCOPY32 to preserve long file-names." Except that
XyWin, being a Win 3.1 app, doesn't use long file names. Furthermore, if
you run even just XCOPY from the Run command within Windows
(Start-->Run-->C:\windows\command\XCOPY ), LFN will be preserved if there
are any. XyWin also does not do anything to the registry (beyond what
happens when you create the shortcut, which is a .lnk, not a .pif). It
doesn't even (and this was rare even in Win 3.1 apps) add anything to the
Windows folder or its subfolders. That's what makes copying an existing
setup feasible (and indeed the best if not the only way to get XyWin
installed on a 32-bit Win machine). So if anyone is running XyWin
successfully, get the directory copied to some portable medium (CD, ZIP
disk, flash drive, Zipped to floppies--whatever) and keep the copy
updated if you add XPL routines, so that if and when you get a new PC,
you can copy it over.
Yes, there is a way to map a network printer to a port in Windows 9.x at
least. You use the Capture Printer Port in the Details tab of the
printer's properties box. As I don't have a network here, I cannot test
the process, but will try to remember when I'm next in the office.
