On-screen display problems

I had been using XyWin (4.017, as I recall - I don't have the right pc with
me at the moment, but it's the most recent version) without problem for
several years. In the last few months, I have had problems with the
on-screen display. Specifically, I get a fairly large monospaced font,
despite the fact that I have set up Times New Roman as the default.
Moreover, the on-screen font doesn't even show the end of long lines; i.e.,
I can't even see them by sending the cursor to the far right end of the
line. The other symptom: When I hit CTRL-T to get the font dialog box,
there's often a non-numeric character (the symbol for section) in the font
size (point) box.

I have tried several things, including re-installing the program; using
Windows only or Windows & Xywrite fonts, etc. -- all without success. (I
have also thought long and hard about whether there are any particular
programs I have loaded in recent months that might have introduced this
problem -- no brilliant insights on that front either.)

My latest "theory" is that the problems is in Windows -- I'm using Windows
95 -- not XyWin per se. I noticed that when I bring up the dialog box to
choose a printer within XyWin, the first "choice" is "Rendering subsystem on
PUB:." I don't know what that is, although I have noticed it on another
computer that runs Windows 95 -- so it may be totally innocuous.

Any suggestions?
