Smartset Bug Fix

Carl,
I'm enjoying Smartset and would like to implement the fix. But
I don't know the principle behind XXencoding. I thought it would
be that each low-order ASCII byte represents one part of the hex
value (e.g., to encode 90, send 39 30) but that isn't it. I also
don't have any program to do the decoding, but I don't mind
writing my own if you would explain the principle.
