CALNDR and YEAR both work for me in NB8. The only anomaly I see
is that they both display an "A+umlaut" in NB8 (because char 196
is Ä in Windows ANSI, and a long horizontal bar [drawing
character] in US-ASCII). CALNDR was written a long time ago,
late 1980s probably, pre-Windows. I just changed that character
to a regular dash, and both routines now display perfectly in
NB8.

Have you followed our advice for installation of U2 under NB8?
Go here:
 http://users.datarealm.com/xywwweb/XYWEBTXT.HTM

Pay particular attention to the ABSOLUTE REQUIREMENT that if you
edit U2 in NB, and you then intend to SAve U2 after making any
edit, you MUST use "CA/100" when you open U2 in a window.

** If you do not use CA/100, you WILL trash U2 irretrievably!!
**

And I do mean irretrievably. U2 will no longer function
correctly. The reason is explained in the above-cited file.
Meaning: you must download a fresh U2 and start over from
scratch. (Hopefully, you use identical U2s in both Xy4 and NB8,
and you can just copy your Xy4 version over to NB8. When you
make edits to U2, always make them in the Xy4 copy, and then
just copy that over to NB. It's safest never to open U2 in NB,
unless you really keep your wits about you.) I won't even
bother to explain why NB trashes U2, it is so incredibly stupid
of NB. Basically, they auto-change -- without informing you or
asking permission -- three characters in the 256 character set
in EVERY file you open. It is idiotic and outrageous, and done
simply as an accommodation to appearance -- no other reason.
That destroys the integrity of U2. CA/100 suppresses this lame
behavior. Until I confronted Siebert about it, NB had never
mentioned it publicly. Bleeping dumbbells. How would you like
it if XyWrite just changed all your files willy-nilly?

Truth to tell, in my implementation of NB8, I just disable
everything NB has added to the word processor. I don't load any
of their *.AUX files (which contain all their original
programming). I use my Xy4 KBD file, and contrive to use my Xy4
STARTUP.INT too. The result is "GUI Xy4 for Windows". The only
part of NB that I'm using is the word processor engine itself,
bare bones. If anybody wants to know how to configure NB in
this manner (it isn't obvious unless you've studied NB
internals), I will happily sketch the procedure.
