Re: Printing in Windows 98

The problem with PostScript is the file "pscript.drv", by default in the
directory \windows\system. It has changed since win 3.1x and doesn't cooperate
with some "old" programs.
I solved the problem installing the printer with the old postscript driver for
win 3.1x. Since the file names are identical you have to change the file name
in pscript3.drv or whatever you want, if you won't overwrite the windows98
driver. For the normal installation process you need the "OEM Information"
for the printer (or you have to change all registry entries manually).

To install for example a Linotype printer I created a subdirectory with the
following files:

L200230&.WPD
L200230&.SPD
PSCRIPT3.DRV
PSCRIPT3.HLP
OEMSETUP.INF

and changed the content of oemsetup.inf to the new named pscriptx.drv:

[io.device]
pscript3.DRV,7:L200230&.wpd,"Linotronic 200/230","DEVICESPECIFIC"
    ^
[io.dependent]
pscript3.drv=pscript3.hlp
    ^
EOF

Some postscript printers had their own ps driver. To get the win3.1 version you
mustn't select the printer from the win98 menue, but choose "others" or how
it's named and direct the installation program to your old printer floppy disk
or subdirectory with the printer information.
It works under win98.
