Thank you, Paul! That worked. And Chris Madsen solved my other problem, so
I have my wonderful XyWrite back. I was actually beginning to wonder if,
after all these years, I would have to start using Word.

I found the only solution to be to remove the KS line from my startup file and set the keyboard repeat rate within the DOS box. If you type "help mode" at a DOS prompt (in win2k anyway) you will get a list of options. These persist in all DOS boxes for all time, in my experience, until
