Speedo fonts ---- TrueType fonts??

Hi,

I'm using both XyWrite for DOS (4.105) and for Windows (4.11).
The typeface I like best is a TrueType font: Elegant Garamond BT.
As far as I know BitStream will not allow anyone to market a
utility to convert to and from Speedo format, and they charge
very high prices for Speedo fonts. (The people who do the AllType
conversion program know how to convert Speedo, but they say
BitStream won't allow them to do it.)

I often use Ibid, which is available only for XyWrite for DOS, so
I have to use the DOS product. Is there any way to extract font
width information from TrueType fonts to make a XyWrite width
table? If I had that I could at least edit in XyDOS and be sure I
had the correct page breaks even though I couldn't print.

Can anyone help? Why is BitStream so possessive of Speedo fonts?
I legitimately own many BitStream fonts, mostly as Type 1 and
TrueType.
Most came with Corel products, making them quite inexpensive. I
talked with BitStream and they won't give me any price break on
Speedo versions of the Type 1 and TrueType typefaces I own. And
generally they want more than $100 per typeface!
