many thanks for your extended explanation of the tilde issue. i will
try it again. the one thing i did not understand was your very last
instruction: But, for future
reference: to disable a key, assign it a 3-byte Ascii-0: nn=[0],
where "[0]" is the char produced by holding down Ctrl-Alt-Shift,
why do i want to disable a key; don't i just want to reprogram it.?
