Please explain, on or off list.

I have a file which is basically a diary. Every time
I smoke I type NOW to get the time, and write in
the number of the cigarette I have smoked that
day. It helps me keep it down. I stopped for about
2-1/2 years recently, but started again in August
because I had to spend so much time sitting down
and writing a brief in some interminable litigation
I have. (No, I am not a lawyer, merely a stubborn
litigant.) If anyone is interested in stopping, here's
how I did it. I got a flu, and thought I was going to die.
I was practically in a coma for three days. It was
as boring as hell: completely unspiritual. I was
furious! No out-of-body experiences, etc. etc. When
I got up, I realized that for the first time since 12, I had
passed three days without smoking. I ran with it.
I had tried patches, gum, etc. -- that doesn't work.
Stopping cold is what works. When you want to do it.
It's not hard. You're only as addicted as the last
cigarette you've smoked. It's a very strong addiction,
but if you stop it, you stop being addicted. Smoking
does mask, however, hunger cravings that I've always
had -- I was a fat and unhappy kid. But exercise really
does help after quitting, in two ways: it keeps your mind
off the cravings, which aren't that bad, and it helps you
maintain weight when you start eating more. Exercise
also does wonders for mood and mental clarity. Sorry to
rattle on at such length -- though I bet the statisical
incidence of cigarette consumption on this list is high.
No, Morris, I don't mean you! Get that dead horse
out of the water! And now for a psyllium husk cocktail.
