That's a fine idea. I already have a user-installed SCSI 4GB in my present
Dell Optiplex 590 system, which boots most of the time . I paid $1,100
for it about eight months ago; since then prices have come down.

One thing I can never find in the guides about these drives is which ones
are quiet and which of them make a lot of noise when they do their work. The
present one, a Quantum XP34301, is quite clickity-clacky.
