vmware and xydos

a comment on markseiler's endorsement of vmware. i realize this is
taking us rather far afield from xywrite problems, and will desist
after this observation.

i tried vmware for days (together with a real linux hotshot since i am
NOT one) and finally gave up. vmware creates virtual machines that
can run other operating systems, and you can move back and forth
between your linux machine and the virtual machine quite easily. BUT
trying to set the virtual machine up so that it was an already
existent NT partition with all my xy files on it was simply
impossible.

this means that if you want to access your xy files (presumably
produced under DOS or windows xx) while running under linux, you don;t
seem to be able to do it. the much simpler dosemulator does however
allow you to do just that. furthermore you can move your xy files
effortlessly onto your network connection running under linux, and
vice-versa.

vmware clearly can work well if you are willing to work independently
in one os and then in linux, and then go back to the one running on
the virtual machine and so on.
