Rescue Xy3

I understand why TTG doesn't want to liberate XyWin and Xy-IV, but why won't
they allow someone access to the Xy 3.57 code with some kind of licensing
agreement? My understanding is that XyWrite IV was almost completely
rewritten, so Xy III is not likely to be hiding any secrets. It would
be nice is someone could update XyWrite III --- better memory handling, long
file names, ??? Doesn't it bother you that something as unique and
wonderful as XyWrite 3 will never be allowed to reach its own kind of
perfection? Grrr. Admittedly, it is not something on which TTG could
sensibly expend resources, but unless there are worries about "trade
secrets", a carefully structured licensing agreement with a freelance
programmer seems to be a reasonable gamble.
