As I recall, it is possible to use HP LaserJet drivers on most DeskJets
since about the 520 or 540 model, as long as the LaserJet driver uses
PCL 3 language. For example, a LaserJet IIP driver ought to work well.
Whether or not this would give you a larger range of point sizes, I
cannot say. But it may be worth a try.
