U2-two minor bugs...

Howdy all, After many years of procrastination, I finally decided about two months ago to begin configuring XY4 so that it matches my very heavily customized XY 3.55 setup. My goal has been get XY4 working with U2 so that I could use it with CLIP to write my emails in XY4 and then clip and paste the text into my Windows email program.

Today, after much work, I finally succeeded in making everything work. Thanks to Robert and Carl for making U2 happen. I can't tell you how nice it is to be writing this email in Xywrite. (For the last five years I have been using Nota Bene, which I found very buggy and too slow to open.)

My XY4 configuation still has two bugs. I can live with both, but I thought they might interest the programming gurus of this list. Maybe you can solve them.

1. If I open XY4 while the caps-lock key is on, the program locks. I can unlock it by pressing CTRL-SHIFT-ALT simultaneously a number of times, but it is annoying nonetheless. (I should explain that I probably am contributing to this problem by how I have reconfigured my XY4.kbd file. In order to make my keyboard conform to the TRS-80 Model III keyboard I cut my teeth on many years ago, I have moved the caps-lock key to a different place on the keyboard so I can use that key for my down-arrow key. I have had this configuration in my kbd file in XY3 since 1994, and I have never had this bug.) Anyway, everything works without a problem if the caps-lock key is not activated when I open Xywrite 4, but sometimes it gets activated without my realizing it and thus the bug.

2. I use both XY3 and XY4 in Window mode. To make XY fill the screen, I use a combination of fonts from Uwe Sieber's DOSFON plus another program called Text Mode (TM) that allows me to extend the length of any screen. With TM I open XY through a batch file that starts with a TM command that sets the screen 29 lines long, then opens editor.exe. To make XY fit this longer screen I have changed DF SL=29 to DF SL=33 in settings.dfl.

When I open XY4, the first window works perfectly. The XY window fills the screen, with the bottom of the Microsoft window matching the bottom of XY's screen perfectly. However, when I open additional XY screens to load additional files, the new screens are four lines too long, so that when I scroll to the screen's bottom the cursor moves off the screen, out of sight. I have solved this problem by opening new screens/files with the following keyboard command:

BC,c,a, ,SW,n,SW,b,CU,CU,CU,CU,XC,GH

This opens a new screen, then shortens its bottom border four lines.

I can live with this solution. However, when I use U2 it opens its own new screens, and they are four lines too long.

If anyone with better computer skills than me wants to work on these bugs, I will be glad to email you my kbd files, as well as any other information you might need. By the way, I use Windows 98 SE.
